Empower UX capability and Data Platform updates
OverviewExpert users can utilize powerful Advanced Options capabilities to do all the things that your delivery team does today! Configure your own data estate for data ingestion and modeling within the UI. Just like in v1.19, you may enable RBAC enforcement within your deployment to test out your permission configuration. We are expanding our self-service data connector capabilities. Check out the Data Sources tab in the UI to see them all.
- Self-Service Data Acquisition and Analytics: Advanced Options tab expanded to include self-service data acquisition and analytics configurations!
- Role Based Access Controls (RBAC) Enforceable: A brand new access control feature for Empower to enable fine grained control of your deployment!
- New Data Connectors: 25+ full self-service data sources now supported by Empower! Connect, explore, and unleash your data's full potential!
What's New
RBAC controls will enable your administrative team to enable or restrict data movement access. We have new data sources available to self-configure in the UI. You may now also configure data acquisition and analytics using advanced options.
- Self-Service Data Acquisition and Analytics: The Advanced Options page now contains more tables for you to manipulate to configure your data estate. For a deep dive into how to do this, please view our newest user guides on Step Commands, Data Acquisition, and Analytics Engineering to get started.
- RBAC: Your administrators can now access levels on users in v1.19! Users may be granted different degrees of access, depending on your needs. RBAC controls are not mandatorily enforced in v1.20. Ask your delivery manager how to turn on RBAC enforcement. (see the Notes section below). Our published documentation explains how to define these roles.
- New Data Sources Available: Your deployment now enables you to self-service configure 25+ data sources. New sources for this version include Microsoft Access, Oracle Textura, and an experimental version of Azure Delta Lake Services for unstructured data.
- Note, we recommend speaking to your delivery team before attempting to use ADLS for the first time to have best results.
Other Notes
- RBAC will be a phased release, with enforcement being enabled over time:
- V1.18: RBAC is introduced, allowing role assignment; but rules aren't enforced.
- V1.19: RBAC rule enforcement may be feature flagged, defaulting to off.
- V1.20: RBAC rule enforcement may be feature flagged, defaulting to on.
- V1.21+: RBAC rule enforcement is required and can't be turned off.
- We don't yet support publishing configurations within the Advanced Options tab in v1.20. However this feature is coming in v1.21 and is in active QA testing! We are excited to bring this feature to you soon!
